"Press release" re Path to Prosperity

Last Thursday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed Congressman Paul Ryan’s Fiscal Year 2015 “Path to Prosperity” Budget by a vote of 219-205. No Democrats voted for the budget, and 12 Republicans joined them in their dissent. All six Republicans in Alabama’s congressional delegation voted in favor of the budget, while the state’s lone Democrat, Rep. Terri Sewell, R-AL07, voted against it.

Appendix S-4 of the House Budget Committee Path to Prosperity Document shows a reduction, for the ten year period 2015-2024, in outlays under the budget the House passed, compared to current policy, of $5.132 trillion, broken down by "major category", as follows (amounts are in billions of dollars):

Social security                            $0
Medicare                                 -$129
Medicaid and other health         -$732
Affordable Care Act (repeal)    -$2,066
Other mandatory                      -$966
Discretionary (base)                  -$460
War on Terrorism                     $0
Net interest                               -$783
Total                                         -$5,132

Leading up to the WERC candidates' forum next Monday, let the candidates engage in a public discussion of the "Path to Prosperity" budget.
