Subject: April 25th Rhetoric and Guns Alabama Moms Demand meeting
Dear Dr. Wilkes,
Alabama Moms Demand advertised your upcoming April 25 presentation about "Rhetoric and Guns" thusly:
"How we as a society talk—and don’t talk—about guns, gun safety, and gun violence affects the possibilities available to us for action. Led by Dr. Lydia Wilkes, co-editor of Rhetoric and Guns and assistant professor of English at Auburn University, this presentation covers commonplace arguments about guns, gun safety, and gun violence to show these possibilities for action. The presentation includes signs that a conversation has become stuck, ways reasonable disagreement can lead to better arguments, and effective messages promoting gun safety."
I have done my own formulating of arguments about guns, gun safety and gun violence with a view to action. and I have endeavored to do messaging and to have conversation about the same.In my work, I drafted the "Declaration of public officials for gun violence prevention" that is set out at https://al6thcongdist-ihaveuntiljan13.blogspot.com/2022/09/declaration-of-public-officials-for-gun.html.
I also conceived of the mantra #GunsForSelfDefenseOnly.
Recent messaging I have endeavored has been to the Alabama District Attorneys Association as indicated at https://al6thcongdist-ihaveuntiljan13.blogspot.com/2023/03/adaa-declaration-of-public-officials.html and to Alabama banks as indicated at https://al6thcongdist-ihaveuntiljan13.blogspot.com/2023/04/louisville-old-national-bank-shooting.html.
If you are in a position to critique what I have done for making my arguments better and my messaging more effective, that would be greatly appreciated.
If you are not in a position to do that, I will understand.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Rob Shattuck

Thank you very much, Ms. Carter, for replying to this Alabama Moms Demand volunteer.
Ever since the Bruen decision I have been obsessing about how it should be taken into account in the shaping of and advocating for common sense solutions for reducing gun violence.
In my work, I drafted the "Declaration of public officials for gun violence prevention" that is set out at https://al6thcongdist-ihaveuntiljan13.blogspot.com/2022/09/declaration-of-public-officials-for-gun.html.
I also conceived of the mantra #GunsForSelfDefenseOnly.
As exemplified in https://al6thcongdist-ihaveuntiljan13.blogspot.com/2022/12/gunsforselfdefenseonly-contd.html. I have endeavored to solicit the opinion of others regarding the Declaration and said mantra, but have gotten almost no reaction.
As part of my efforts, do you mind if I post your email reply to me on my blog?
If you prefer I not post your email, I won't post it.
Please just let me know about same.
Thank you.

I am an Alabama Moms Demand volunteer.
Everytown defines what it does as including: Enacting and implementing smart gun policies; electing gun sense candidates; demanding accountability; advocating for safety reforms locally and nationally; grassroots organizing in every state; demanding action from elected officials; and creating community. https://www.everytown.org/about-everytown/#what-we-do
I am interested in whether the Bruen case has resulted in any modification in how Moms Demand is going about the foregoing activities.
I have sent the below email to my Alabama chapter leaders, making inquiry whether Moms Demand has communicated to them about any such modification. My Alabama chapter leaders have not replied to me, and I am going to assume that there has not been any such modification communicated to them by Moms Demand.
In your position as Senior Director, Issues and Appeals, for Everytown Law, are you aware of Moms Demand modifying how it is going about the foregoing activities in light of the Bruen case? Have you thought that Moms Demand should modify how it is going about the foregoing activities in light of the Bruen case?
Any such modification as a result of the Bruen decision would presumably involve consultation with the Everytown Law team, and that is why I am asking you these questions.
Thank you for whatever response you can give me here.

Subject: AUM April 8th roundtable on "#alpolitics and journalism"
To addressee Alabama journalism and communications professors
On Monday, Professor David Alan Hughes tweeted that Auburn University at Montgomery is hosting the 2023 Southern Studies Conference April 7-8, and there will be a roundtable on #alpolitics and journalism on April 8th at 3:00 pm in the Liberal Arts Tech-Wing, 210, in which Todd Stacey, Erin Davis, Lee Hedgepeth and Carolyn Hutcheson will participate.
I tweeted back to Professor Hughes, saying that for months I have been complaining about Alabama TV stations failing to fulfill their journalistic obligations to their viewers (linking https://al6thcongdist-ihaveuntiljan13.blogspot.com/2022/11/local-tv-journalism-ethics- html and https://al6thcongdist-ihaveuntiljan13.blogspot.com/2023/02/opening-new-front-against-al-tv-stations.html), and that I would avail of the April 8th roundtable to do more harping on this.
Acknowledging that I am a lay person with no professional or academic credentials in the fields of journalism or communications, I consider it unsatisfactory that Alabama TV stations do not see fit to respond in any way to my complaining that they are failing to fulfill their journalistic obligations to their viewers.
I have drawn into my complaining Alabama professors in the fields of journalism and communication, because their academic departments are educating students who will work for Alabama TV stations, and it is legitimate for me to let those academic departments know about my complaints.
Accordingly, to do more harping on this subject, I am sending this email to the addressee professors and am copying the TV stations on this email, as well as Professor Hughes, Todd Stacey, Erin Davis, Lee Hedgepeth (via Twitter) and Carolyn Hutcheson.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Rob Shattuck

Dear Servis 1st Bank,
Will the Louisville Old National Bank mass shooting cause Servis 1st Bank to ask the Business Council of Alabama, the Birmingham Business Alliance and other Alabama chambers of commerce to try harder in 2023 to help reduce gun violence in Alabama?
I am sending this email to you because the chambers are unresponsive to me on this. See, e.g., my 11/27/22 email to Alabama chambers that is set out at https://al6thcongdist-ihaveuntiljan13.blogspot.com/2022/12/what-will-reduce-gun-violence.html
