Thank you, Dr. Jones, for UAB spending the time to make a decision on this.
Come November, we will all know better about the peril that American Democracy is in or is not in, and whether enough has been done or has not been done in 2024 to save it.

Subject: UAB and the American Bar Association Task Force for American Democracy
Dear President Watts:
I have previously been in touch with Dr. Christopher Jones, Assistant Vice President for Campus & Community Engagement, about the holding of a conversation event at UAB related to the American Bar Association's "Task Force for American Democracy" and its Mission Statement that appears at https://www.americanbar.org/groups/leadership/office_of_the_president/american-democracy/overview/.
As the 2024 election cycle progresses, I have contacted the Presidents of Dartmouth College, the University of Iowa, the University of New Hampshire, the University of South Carolina and Clemson University, urging them to speak to their communities in support of the American Bar Association Task Force for American Democracy's mission. For information on this, please read https://al6thcongdist-ihaveuntiljan13.blogspot.com/2023/12/iowa-caucuses-new-hampshire-primary.html.
In light of the perilous condition of the United States, and the importance of democracy for moving through said perilous condition, I think you should use the mission of the American Bar Association Task Force for American Democracy as the basis of a statement by you to the UAB community in the vein of what I have suggested above. I hope you agree.
Thank you for your consideration of this email.
Sincerely,
Rob Shattuck

Dear Professor Erwin
This email is in follow up to the January 1st email I sent to President Roberts, with a copy to you, about the holding of a conversation event at Auburn related to the American Bar Association's "Task Force for American Democracy" and its Mission Statement that appears at [https://www.americanbar.org/groups/leadership/office_of_the_president/american-democracy/our-work/]
For your information, per the below email interchange, UAB has passed on this.
I repeat what I said to Dr. Jones: ("Come November, we will all know better about the peril that American Democracy is in or is not in, and whether enough has been done or has not been done in 2024 to save it.") and express hope that Auburn still has the suggestion conversation event under consideration and will decide in favor of holding such an event.
Thanks.

Email urging using this in "Dartmouth Dialogues"

Subject: Rep. Jamie Raskin's "Democracy vs. Autocracy in 2024"; Dartmouth Dialogues
Dear Professor Nachlis, Dean Smith, and Ms. Clemens:
I am addressing this email to Professor Nachlis because he is identified as the moderator of the January 8th discussion by Rep. Jamie Raskin of "the historic stakes of the 2024 election, and its potential impact on the future of American democracy," and to Dean Smith and Ms. Clemens because they are co-leaders of the newly announced Dartmouth Dialogues initiative and its Dialogues Project.
I have previously been in touch with Mr. Robert Coates and Professor Linda Fowler, and even sent a December 25th email to President Beilock related to the Cheney and Raskin speaking events, urging her to issue a statement to the College calling attention to the perilous condition the United States is in, the importance of democracy in the country's moving through said perilous condition, and the special opportunity the Dartmouth community has in January to have much timely conversation about democracy. (You can find emails at Be An Alabama Rootstriker* with Rob Shattuck: Iowa caucuses; NH and SC primaries (al6thcongdist-ihaveuntiljan13.blogspot.com).
President Beilock's January 3rd "Winter welcome" email to the Dartmouth community sets its theme with the words "we continue to face conflict around the world and deep divisions here in the U.S." and announces there will be a rolling out of a "Dartmouth Dialogues” initiative. President Beilock's January 10th update formally announces "Dartmouth Dialogues" as "our shared commitment to expanding programming across the institution dedicated to facilitating conversations and skills that bridge political and personal divides."
In Alabama, I am making a simple plea of "Come ye Trumpers and anti-Trumpers, let us gather together and talk to one another." Be An Alabama Rootstriker* with Rob Shattuck: Come ye Trumpers and anti-Trumpers (al6thcongdist-ihaveuntiljan13.blogspot.com)
I suggest that the foregoing simple plea could be made a component in the Dialogues Project.
Thank you for reading this email and considering making the foregoing simple plea a component in the Dialogues Project.
Sincerely,
Rob Shattuck
