RACE THEORY IN ALABAMA K-12 SCHOOLS

ALABAMA:
In the Homewood
City School System a father reported a Heritage Panel visited his son’s 10th
grade classroom. After listening to the
panel his son asked if white people could be discriminated against. The class split in half; those that said “no”
and those that said “yes”. The teacher
supported the answer that whites cannot be discriminated against and told the
student he was in the dominant group. He
was also informed he could go to the library during the sessions if he felt
uncomfortable. Homewood City School
System and others around the state participate in a Heritage Panel that visits
classrooms to discuss Social Emotional Learning. SEL overlaps with CRT. https://www.facebook.com/localalabamaorg/videos/248255580765191/?extid=NS-UNK-UNK-UNK-AN_GK0T-GK1C&ref=sharing
Huntsville City
Schools received Critical Race Training in 2015. https://yellowhammernews.com/huntsville-city-schools-received-critical-race-theory-training-in-2015-document-shows/
Huntsville City Schools use the Anti-Defamation League’s
“No Place For Hate” Program in the Huntsville
City School System – 21 pre K- elementary schools, 6 middle schools, 7 high
schools, 2 magnet schools.https://www.huntsvillecityschools.org/newscenter/hcs-holds-5th-annual-no-place-hate-celebration
Jasper
City Schools – the grandmother of an elementary
school student reported that her grandson watched a BLM video during class
time. The teacher told her principal she
didn’t think there was anything wrong with showing the video.
Mountain Brook
School System trained their personnel in the tenets of Critical Race Theory
using the Anti-Defamation League’s “No Place for Hate” Program – 4 elementary
schools, one middle school, one high school.
The Anti-Defamation League defines racism as: “The
marginalization and/or oppression of people of color based on a socially
constructed racial hierarchy that privileges white people.” https://adl.org/racism
The ADL program promotes equity (manufacturing equal
outcomes) rather than equality (promoting equal opportunities).
The Heritage Foundation provides informative commentary
on “No Place for Hate”: “Jonathan Haidt, a social psychologist at New York
University, explains that this approach is more likely to produce anger,
anxiety and hopelessness – traits that are rapidly rising among today’s youth.”
In Madison
County’s Buckhorn Middle School a
mother (Sierra) reported the 7th
grade Civics teacher had a poster in support of Black Lives Matter (a black
first raised in the air). The mother
also reported the teacher told the class they were brainwashed because they
have been saying the Pledge of Allegiance since kindergarten. Begin at 7:20. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8tmzbUcPsY
Selma City Schools
teach equity, social justice and restorative justice. Clark Elementary School was re-named Clark
Social Justice Academy.
Superintendent of Selma City Schools: “Acknowledging racism and the ideology of
white supremacy is a step in the right direction”.
The following Alabama teachers have signed a pledge
through the “Zinn Education Project” to continue teaching based on critical
race theory even if it is banned by law.
