Subject: Would it help if public officials pronounced that guns are for self-defense only?
Dear Chief Blankley, Dr. Kerch, and Chief Hooks:
This email is prompted by yesterday's shooting at the University Downs student housing complex in Tuscaloosa.
I have been purveying a "Declaration of public officials for gun violence prevention" that is set out at https://al6thcongdist-ihaveuntiljan13.blogspot.com/2022/09/declaration-of-public-officials-for-gun.html.
The Declaration acknowledges the right of citizens to own and carry guns for self-defense purposes.
In addition, however, the Declaration propounds that the Second Amendment does not give citizens the right to bear arms against the government and law enforcement, and further the Second Amendment does not give citizens a right to bear arms for aggression and intimidation against other citizens.
I perceive a status quo in which there is no prospect for gun violence reduction in coming years, and that the status quo needs to get changed in order to reduce gun violence.
I think the Declaration can change the status quo and lead to gun violence reduction.
I hope you will give serious consideration to whether the Declaration, if made by public officials, can lead to gun violence reduction.
Thank you.

Subject: Would it help if public officials pronounced that guns are for self-defense only?
Dear Dr. Sahoo, Chief Paul, and Chief Johnson:
I live in Alabama.
This email is prompted by yesterday's shooting of nine persons at an off-campus fraternity house near Southern University in Baton Rouge.
A lesser shooting also occurred yesterday at a University of Alabama student housing complex in Tuscaloosa, and that shooting prompted me to send the below email to the City of Tuscaloosa police chief, the University of Alabama Executive Director of Housing and Residential Communities, and the University of Alabama police chief.
As my below email to them says, I have been purveying a "Declaration of public officials for gun violence prevention" that is set out at https://al6thcongdist-ihaveuntiljan13.blogspot.com/2022/09/declaration-of-public-officials-for-gun.html.
I say to them that I think, in the status quo, there is no prospect for gun violence reduction in the coming years, the status quo needs to get changed, and the Declaration can change the status quo and lead to gun violence reduction.
I hope you will give serious consideration to whether the Declaration, if made by public officials, can lead to gun violence reduction to the benefit of Southern University.
Thank you.

Subject: Dallas Regional Chamber and gun violence
Dear Mr. Garcia, Ms.Halfmann, Ms. Christian and Ms. Scott:
I live in Alabama.
This email is prompted by yesterday's fatal shooting of two nurses at the Methodist Dallas Medical Center.
I perceive a status quo in which there is no prospect for gun violence reduction, and that the status quo needs to get changed in order to reduce gun violence.
I think the Declaration can change the status quo and lead to gun violence reduction.
I hope the Dallas Regional Chamber will think about whether the Declaration, if made by public officials, can change the status quo and lead to gun violence reduction, and, if the Chamber thinks that the Declaration would have that effect, I hope the Chamber will urge Dallas and other Texas public officials to make the Declaration.
Thank you.
